The 12th Greek Student Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday, with an engaging finale at the Palace Cinema Como in Melbourne.
Greeted with a paparazzi-style welcome, students studying Greek in Victoria and NSW showcased their short film creations to an enthusiastic audience, celebrating both Greek language and creativity.
For the first time, the event was entirely hosted by students, with Year 9 presenters Nefeli Michalopoulou, Orpheus Sidiroglou, and Stella Tzimas from the Greek Community of Melbourne’s (GCM) City Campus leading the program.
The students facilitated a professional presentation as they introduced the films and announced the award winners.
Leonidas Vlahakis, Chair of the GCM Cultural Committee, praised the students’ work, stating, “I am thrilled by the students’ film creations, and I am touched to watch students presenting the festival with such ease of expression in Greek.”
In the Primary Schools category, first place went to the South Morang campus of GCM Schools, followed by Year 2 students from Doncaster’s Saturday campus and Year 3 students from the City campus. In the Secondary Schools category, the Year 7 students from GCM’s Bentleigh campus took the top award, with the Year 8 students from Oakleigh Grammar and Year 7 students from Balwyn’s GCM campus tying for second.
Oakleigh Grammar’s Year 7 students received third place, while the Audience Award went to Years 5 and 6 from the GCM City campus.
