A case of child sexual abuse has been brought before the Criminal Court of Limassol, with a 76-year-old man charged with multiple counts of abusing a young girl.
The court proceedings began today behind closed doors, with the defendant facing 10 charges related to the sexual abuse of a child under 10 years of age, according to information obtained by philenews.
The case has been scheduled for a response in the coming period, with the accused returning to the Central Prison where he remains in custody awaiting trial.
The young victim’s abuse reportedly began in 2023 when she was just six years old.
The alleged perpetrator is the father of the mother’s partner, and the abuse allegedly occurred over a two-year period during the grandparents’ holiday visits to Cyprus when they stayed in the same house as the victim and her parents.
The allegations came to light following a specific incident that was noticed by the child’s mother and her partner. The victim subsequently disclosed the abuse, leading to a report being filed with the Police Headquarters’ Department for Investigation of Child Sexual Abuse Cases.
Following these developments, a European arrest warrant was issued against the 76-year-old, who was transferred from his home country to Cyprus, where he was arrested and brought before the court.
