How the 1978 Spyros disaster in Singapore made lifelong blood donors of two men
On Oct 12, 1978, Singapore saw its worst industrial accident – an explosion and fire on the Greek oil tanker Spyros at Jurong Shipyard that killed 76 people and injured dozens more. In the ensuing days, hundreds of people responded an appeal to give blood.
