Yesterday was a particularly difficult day for the Patras Industrial Zone, as the flames tore through the area causing serious damage. According to the official statement by Dimitris Leivadaros, president of the Association of Installed Businesses, “from the fire that entered the premises of the Industrial Zone, an abandoned factory and a fertilizer storage facility were destroyed.”
He added that “the flames passed through factory yards, without causing anything more serious. However, the fire, which spread quickly and was very intense, appears to have caused considerable damage to shops outside the industrial area.”
At the same time, even before damage assessments and inspections have taken place, reports indicate that the timber company AVEX’s building was completely burned down, along with a neighboring fertilizer plant, another furniture factory, and a huge warehouse next to the Industrial Zone Fire Department. Many PPC utility poles were also burned, with HEDNO crews called in to restore power to the wider area.

An update on the damage in Patras’ industrial zone was also provided by ETBA (Business and Industrial Parks) VIPE. In its statement, it noted: “The fire that broke out outside the boundaries of the Patras Business Park, on Tuesday, August 12, in Kato Achaia, burned around the perimeter of the Business Park, with losses limited to an abandoned building and a warehouse. Water supply remained uninterrupted from the Business Park’s network thanks to the operation of ETBA VIPE S.A.’s generator, assisting the challenging work of the Fire Service. Restoration of electricity began in the morning. The operation of the Business Park is gradually being restored, following all safety measures.”
