Mazonakis speaks of deceitful confinement in psychiatric institution – Family responds it

With the message that “what matters is his health, safety, and life,” the family of Giorgos Mazonakis issued a statement on Saturday regarding his confinement at the Dromokaitio psychiatric hospital since Thursday, August 14.
In the statement, issued through the law firm Vlassis & Associates, the family emphasized that nothing matters to them beyond the singer’s safety. “When the danger to his life has passed, any third party may make statements,” they added.
The family’s announcement reads:
“For us, Giorgos’ family, what matters is his health, his safety, and his life. Anything else does not concern us, does not affect us, and we will not engage with it. Certainly, it cannot become a field of dispute. When the danger to his life has ceased, any third party may make statements, express positions, and support anything they believe will make them appear familiar and likable.”

However, Mazonakis himself stated on Friday, through his lawyer, that his transfer to the psychiatric institution was carried out “deceitfully” by his family, aiming, as he claims, at his “physical elimination” and “the service of selfish interests.” He further noted that his confinement occurred just days before he was due to file lawsuits against them for serious criminal offenses.
On August 14, relatives of the singer appeared at the Vari–Vouliagmeni police station with a prosecutor’s order and gave testimony. Police officers then went to his home in the southern suburbs and transferred him to the Dromokaitio, which was on duty that day.
When asked if he would be released soon, Mazonakis’ lawyer Giorgos Merkoulidis said he would be discharged on Monday, clarifying: “He will be released immediately; there is nothing psychiatric.” He added: “Absolutely nothing happened, no fight or altercation to justify this confinement.”
The prosecutor’s order that led to confinement
Mazonakis’ lawyer revealed: “For the past 2.5 years, Giorgos has had no in-person contact with his close relatives. The only meeting took place four months ago, with his sister, her husband, and their lawyer, at my office. Some issues were raised, but no solution was found. We told them clearly that we would meet in court.”
There was also another attempt by his sister to visit him at home a month ago, but the singer refused any meeting.
“We were preparing to file lawsuits in September for serious criminal offenses committed by his sister — felonies,” the lawyer further revealed.
