The Municipality of Athens is starting landscaping works at Justice Square, also known as Santarosa, which is located at the intersection of Arsaki, Panepistimiou and Santarosa streets, in the historic center of the city. The intervention is being carried out with a donation from the Association “Partnership for Athens”, totaling 124,845 euros, and with the support of VISA Europe Limited.
The scope of the donation includes technical works for the restoration of infrastructure, maintenance of the two bronze sculptures, Nike IV and Alekos Panagoulis located in the square, as well as landscaping and irrigation works. The works also concern the floors of the square, which had been damaged by the construction of the metro ventilation, while the repair of the paved floors used for pedestrian traffic is also planned.
The implementation of the project is being carried out exclusively at the expense of the Association, without any financial burden on the Municipality of Athens or its budget. The works have been assigned to three bodies: the construction company Dionysis Sotovikis S.A., the art conservator Vasilis Markakis and the landscaping and irrigation company Ecoscapes Landscape Architects & Designers I.K.E.
A committee has been formed to monitor the progress of the works, which monitors the implementation of the donation, compliance with the contractual terms and the quality of the works. In the event of problems or failures in the execution of the works, the committee informs the parties participating in the donation and the necessary measures are taken to resolve them.
The intervention also includes the restoration of the surrounding infrastructure and facilities of the square, with the aim of restoring them to a functional and safe condition for users. The project includes implementation support from VISA S.A., which participates in the process for the execution of the works in accordance with the contractual commitments of the Association, while ensuring technical and procedural supervision at all stages of the work.
