Greta Thunberg detained by Israeli forces after ‘attack’ on Gaza aid flotilla

Greta Thunberg is among dozens held by Israeli soldiers after he aid convoy to Gaza was intercepted.
Several vessels of the Gaza aid flotilla have been stopped and their passengers are being transferred to an Israeli port, the Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Swedish eco-warrior was seen grabbing her bright green bucket hat in the dark as soldiers swarmed her vessel. One soldier reads a piece of paper she hands him and helps her put a jacket on.
Just before Greta’s boat was boarded by soldiers, she addressed followers on camera, declaring Israel must be held accountable for ‘war crimes’.
‘Greta Thunberg, the Swedish climate campaigner, and her friends are ‘safe and healthy,’ the foreign ministry said in a post on X alongside a video that appeared to show Greta Thunberg and several masked and armed Israeli military personnel.
Other activists claimed Israel used water cannons against vessels as they raided the flotilla.
The Global Sumud Flotilla set sail from Barcelona earlier this month with the aim of breaking Israel’s blockade of Gaza and delivering aid to the territory.
Shortly after she was detained, protesters in Napoli stormed rail stations, keeping their promise that unions would act if the crew were harmed.
Protests also erupted Athens and Berlin after the Global Sumud Flotilla’s interception.
The flotilla had already been targeted by drones where its boat had been anchored before resuming its voyage towards Gaza.
The mission is the largest effort of its kind aiming to reach Gaza, where 2.4 million Palestinians live under an Israeli blockade.
Israel has previously intercepted Gaza-bound ships, seizing the vessels and deporting those on board.
