Police have made a new arrest in connection with the murder of 49-year-old Stavros Demosthenous, who was killed in Limassol last Friday, October 17, 2025.
According to police, the latest suspect is a 30-year-old convict serving a sentence at the Central Prisons. This brings the total number of suspects arrested in the case to five.
Convict allegedly ordered motorcycle purchase
Authorities identified the convict following testimony from another 30-year-old suspect who was detained yesterday.
The detained suspect reportedly told interrogators that he received instructions from the convict to purchase the motorcycle allegedly used in the murder. The newly arrested convict will be interrogated regarding his alleged role in the motorcycle purchase.
The motorcycle, once purchased, appears to have been arranged to be picked up by another individual.
The convict, who is serving a sentence for a drug-related case, is reportedly being held in the same wing as an unconvicted detainee whose cell was searched by police on Sunday night.
Previous arrests and court order
Police had previously arrested four other suspects believed to have a role in the case:
- A 44-year-old former footballer and owner of the motorcycle believed to have been used in the murder.
- A 59-year-old and a 30-year-old from Nicosia.
- A 39-year-old residing in Limassol.
The 39-year-old of Greek origin reportedly holds a crucial role, as he was recorded by closed-circuit surveillance cameras at all three scenes, including on the days preceding the businessman’s murder.
The 59-year-old, the 30-year-old, and the 39-year-old were brought before the Limassol District Court yesterday morning under tight security and wearing bulletproof vests.
Despite objections from the lawyers of the 59-year-old and the 39-year-old, the court approved the police’s request and ordered their eight-day detention.
