Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman described his first meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides as sincere and positive, and presented a 10-point package aimed at creating an “atmosphere for solution” which he said does not currently exist on the island.
Speaking at the so-called presidency in the occupied areas, Erhürman said the two leaders had given full authority to their representatives and that meetings at representative level would continue, according to Yeni Duzen.
The meeting lasted about one hour and 30 minutes, including 15 minutes of private talks between the two leaders, he said. He added that the two would remain in constant communication and could meet again whenever deemed necessary.
Erhürman said he also submitted a four-point package for the first time, which he had previously referenced and which concerns conditions that would favour the resumption of negotiations.
The 10 proposals Erhürman presented are:
- Resolving issues related to mixed marriages
- Facilitation at the Agios Dometios checkpoint and improvements at the Astromeritis/Zodia and Deryneia checkpoints
- Football matches between children under 14 under the Bicommunal Youth Committee
- Joint visit by the two leaders to the Committee on Missing Persons
- Stopping arrests and actions that create a negative climate
- Resolving problems with trade through the Green Line Regulation
- Completing procedures on the halloumi issue
- Re-establishing the EU Ad-Hoc Committee
- Creating a communication channel between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot security forces
- Presence of both leaders at road construction works to be carried out in the dead zone by contractors
