AEK delivered a comeback win for its fans to give them plenty to cheer heading into the Christmas and New Year’s break as they returned to the top of the Greek Super League table.
Enosi came from behind to beat OFI 2-1 at “Agia Sophia” Stadium on Monday Morning in the league’s 15th round, move into first on 37 points.
The Cretans stunned the hosts with a goal in the second minute via Eddie Salcedo, a lead they held onto going into the break even when AEK’s Luka Jovic failed to convert a penalty in the 45+3rd minute.
AEK came out firing in the second period and struck twice, first through Robert Ljubicic (54′) before Jovic made up for his missed penalty to score what proved the winning goal in the 67th minute.
PAOK, meanwhile, put together a completely dominant performance against Panathinaikos, beating the Greens 2-0 at “Toumba” in a one-sided affair.
The Thessaloniki giants owed the win to two of their youngsters with Giannis Konstantelias (39′) and 18-year-old Anestis Mythou (53′) both scoring, the latter of which bagged his first ever league goal in his career.
A strong performance from Panathinaikos keeper Konstatinos Kotsaris kept the match at just 2-0, saving the “Trifylli” from a heavier defeat that would have been deserving given the domination of PAOK.
In other results from the round, Kifisia stunned Olympiacos by grabbing a 1-1 draw at “Georgios Karaiskakis” ground on Sunday morning.
It marked Olympiacos’ first dropped points against a non-top-six club, a costly draw that allowed AEK to leap into first place.
The Super League will return on 11-12 January, with the headline game to be Aris vs AEK in Thessaloniki.
