Hollywood star Brad Pitt is gearing up to visit Greece, specifically the island of Hydra, where he will film his newest film ‘The Riders’.
The island’s mayor Giorgos Kokoudakis revealed the news on the show “Happy Day”, saying he will be on the island from late February to mid-March.
“We have been informed that Brad Pitt will come to the island,” the mayor said.
“We are particularly happy, because as you know, the first Hollywood production in Greece, ‘The Boy and the Dolphin’ with Sophia Loren, was filmed on our island in 1957. So it is no coincidence that the unique natural scenery our island provides has been chosen once again.”
Koukoudakis expressed they are particularly happy and that they will try to satisfy even the most “demanding visitor”, adding that they expect a few hundred people from the production.
“What has been requested of us is that a meeting will soon be held with representatives of the production company to finalise the municipality’s contribution to the filming,” said Koukoudakis.
“Because, as you understand, we are a small island and we must facilitate such a production with the means we have and with the good will we have, because our island loves culture.”
He added that, although he does not know the details, they are delighted that, for the first time in the island’s history, the tourist season is starting in February.
He also noted that the tourist season in Hydra now ends in mid-November, though they also had visitors this past Christmas.
According to the mayor, extras will definitely be needed for the film, but he said he did not know any further details.
