A minute with: Constantia Soteriou, writer

Where do you live?
I live in Nicosia with my husband and twins.
What did you have for breakfast?
A sandwich with zea bread, fig jam and brie.
Describe your perfect day.
It is summer, I am at a quiet cottage by the sea with my family. I am reading books, sipping lemonade, eating pasta without getting fat and I have no care in the world.
Best book ever read?
The Double Book by Dimitrios Hatzis because it always comforts and enchants me. It is the book I always have on my headrest and I turn to when I don’t feel well.
Best childhood memory?
In the summer before going to primary school, when I was six, playing in the garden with the cats and my mother always waiting for me indoors.
What is always in your fridge?
Fruit, wine and vegetables.
What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
The music of my youth. Mainly Xylina Spathia and Pavlos Pavlidis.
What’s your spirit animal?
I’d say cats because I admire their ability to not give a toss about anything.
What are you most proud of?
That I managed to study and go to university. It was not to be taken for granted. And the books I brought forth with my toil and sweat.
What movie scene has really stayed with you?
A scene from the not-so-well-known 1990 movie Trust. The moment the heroine makes a leap of faith into the embrace of her co-star. I remember this dive into the void and her total confidence that she will be saved.
If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
I would have liked to meet Dido Sotiriou. She is one of the writers who influenced me both thematically and in the way of writing. And I admire her for her attitude towards life.
If you could time travel when/where would you go?
I don’t like the thought of time travel. I am sure I’d make a blunder and change the course of history.
What is your greatest fear?
If anything were to happen to the people I love.
What would you say to your 18-year-old self?
Everything is going to be alright.
Name the one thing that would stop you dating someone.
If he was far-right, a Trump fan, believed the Earth is flat or ate garlic.
If the world is ending in 24 hours, what would you do?
I would gather with the people I love and we would have a magnificent dinner and we would hug waiting for the end with love.
