The Mytilenians have a unique way of celebrating, and they proved it once again on Sunday at the “Mytilenian Glendi,” held at the Mytilenian House in Sydney. More than 250 members of the Greek community attended the lively gathering.
The event was organised by the Mytilenian Brotherhood of Sydney and New South Wales, with the participation of the Pallesvian Association of Melbourne and Victoria.
Around 50 Mytilenians traveled from Melbourne to Sydney specifically for the event, led by their president, Yiannis Karanikolas.
Among the distinguished guests was Sophie Cotsis, Member for Canterbury and Minister in the Minns State Government, who has ancestral roots in Lesvos.
During his speech, Panagiotis Psomas, President of the Mytilenian Brotherhood of Sydney, highlighted the strong ties between the two communities:
“A few years ago, our Brotherhood in New South Wales attended the Ouzo Festival in Melbourne, organised by the Pallesvian Association of Melbourne and Victoria. President Yiannis Karanikolas and his council put together a fantastic event. Today, it is our turn to reciprocate with hospitality.”
Uncle John Dickson, who is married to Greek-Australian Aunty Liz, delighted attendees with his enthusiasm for traditional Greek dancing and connection to Hellenic culture.
