AEK in search of vital win against Aris in Thessaloniki

The pressure is all on AEK to keep their championship hopes alive as they prepare for a tricky trip to Thessaloniki against a spirited Aris side looking to spoil the party.
Enosi heads to “Kleanthis Vikelidis” Stadium on Monday morning in the 26th and last round of the Greek Super League’s regular season, needing maximum points to keep within range of title favourites Olympiacos.
AEK’s loss to the Piraeus side last matchday significantly hindered their push for the premiership, making them fall five points behind.
The defeat means the clash with Aris carries even more weight as they need to stay within range and build up momentum heading into the play-offs.
The Thessaloniki outfit will be keen to cause chaos in their final game against the top four, especially with the view of strengthening their position in fifth ahead of the play-offs (the position which is likely to earn the final European qualifying round spot for next season).
Olympiacos is looking to make light work of OFI at “Georgios Karaiskakis” ground to preserve their five-point lead.
The Cretans come in with good momentum (winning their last three outings) and they will be hopeful that, coupled with the fact the “red-whites” had to play midweek in Europe, will give them enough of a chance to bag a positive result.
Panathinaikos travels away to Atromitos in a game wherein they cannot afford anything less than a win.
The Greens are still presenting a public image of confidence in their pursuit of the league title, though any hope would all but surely be crushed in the event of a draw or loss to the Peristeriotes.
PAOK is aiming for a positive finish to the regular season in their away clash with Kallithea, who themselves will be desperate to score a shock win to boost their chances of survival.
Volos, the team just above Kallithea in the safe 12th spot, travels to face Lamia and a win to the Magnesia outfit would prove a major blow to the Fthiotida club’s very slim hopes of staying in the top flight.
Panetolikos is striving to sneak into the top eight as they take on Levadiakos at home.
The Canaries would need to win and for Atromitos to lose for that to happen, though they have every reason to believe in themselves given the Peristeriotes’ challenging fixture with the “Trifylli”.
Asteras Tripolis hosts Panserraikos with the goal of snapping a four-game losing streak in all competitions and getting a boost right before the play-offs.
