Renowned dance instructor Andreas Papadopoulos of the Dora Stratou Dance Theatre has wrapped up a highly successful series of traditional Greek dance workshops in Australia, marking another memorable visit filled with connection, culture and community spirit.
“Another unforgettable life experience, surrounded by so much love and acceptance!” Papadopoulos said, reflecting on the warmth he received from Greek communities across Sydney and Melbourne.
Hosted in Melbourne by The Kos Club, the second series of workshops opened with dances from the Dodecanese Islands and expanded into traditions from across Greece. Participants travelled from multiple states to attend.
“The dedication of people thirsting for anything from Greece… their passion and love for getting closer to tradition… it makes me feel humble for everything I’ve received from Greeks and others alike,” he said.

Papadopoulos emphasised the power of dance in building unity across cultures: “The love for tradition should bring all nationalities together in the same circle. Thank you for the smiles and the big hugs I received after every lesson!”
Students described the workshops as inspiring, emotional and unlike any experience previously offered in Australia.
Georgia, who travelled more than an hour each day to attend, said: “His knowledge and attention to detail, combined with his humility and passion for tradition, is something I’ve never experienced before.”

Xenia, travelling twice from Echuca, was struck by “the desire so many young people have for traditional Greek dancing.”
A former professional dancer from Greece added: “Dora Stratou is highly regarded in Greece, the calibre of this teacher is exceptional.”
Papadopoulos confirmed he will return in April 2026, this time accompanied by a female instructor from the Dora Stratou Theatre.
“The next visit will be different, and even better. Having two teachers will greatly benefit all participants and we have a few surprises in store!”
The Kos Club of Victoria extended thanks to all dance schools, instructors and students who supported the workshops, and offered special recognition to the Kos Club of NSW for hosting the Sydney program.
