Players competing at the Australian Open will be playing for a record prize pool in 2026, after organisers announced a 16 per cent increase in total prize money to A$111.5 million.
The men’s and women’s singles champions at the season’s first Grand Slam will each receive A$4.15 million, representing a 19 per cent increase on last year’s winner’s cheque.
Tournament director Craig Tiley said the increase reflects Tennis Australia’s commitment to supporting players across all levels of the sport — from emerging talents to established Grand Slam champions.
“By increasing prize money by 55 per cent since 2023 and improving player benefits, we are ensuring professional tennis is sustainable for everyone who competes,” Tiley said.
“By supporting players at all levels, we are building deeper talent pools and creating more compelling stories for fans.”
The Australian Open will get underway at Melbourne Park on 18 January, with Jannik Sinner and Madison Keys set to defend their respective singles titles.
Among the high-profile players expected to feature is Greek star Maria Sakkari, as the tournament once again places Melbourne at the centre of the global tennis calendar.
