Boat owners launch attack on Transport Minister over Larnaca marina fees

The boat owners at Larnaca Marina are launching an attack on the Minister of Transport, demanding a reduction in charges and mooring fees after the termination of the agreement with Kition Ocean Holdings.
The trigger for this was the statement made by Alexis Vafeades to philenews, in which he mentioned that, compared to other marinas in the Republic of Cyprus and some in Greece, Larnaca Marina has the lowest charges.
In a statement, the Moored Boats Owners Association at the Marina expressed that Vafeades’s statements were misleading, “distorting the truth and misleading the public.”
As they state, their request for a reduction in mooring fees is based on state-owned mooring spaces that offer similar services to Larnaca Marina.
“We are referring to these when we compare services and speak of practices that conflict with the principles of equal treatment and non-discrimination against boat owners at Larnaca Marina,” they note, adding that they chose the most expensive marinas in Greece as examples.
They also emphasise that the marinas in Cyprus offer special offers to boat owners, citing the fact that more than 40 boats are now moored at Ayia Napa Marina.
Stating that the services offered at Larnaca Marina cannot be compared to the others, they called on the Minister of Transport to visit the marina with a boat. “Also, if the works you refer to, Mr. Vafeades, ever begin, then the marina will become a live construction site for several years, with all the consequences in terms of noise and general nuisance.
This is another important factor that you should take into account when comparing Larnaca with other marinas and mooring spaces,” they indicate, adding that the access and security system is still under the control of an Israeli company, while there are piles of garbage in the surrounding area.
