President Christodoulides had the opportunity to talk shop with the UN Secretary General on the sidelines of the UN Oceans Summit being held on the French Riviera, discussing developments in efforts to kickstart settlement negotiations, also in light of the 2nd multi-party conference under UNSG auspices, scheduled for July 24th-25th in New York.
During a break from the Nice deliberations, they both expressed the will towards reaching a successful outcome at the conference and noted the need to continue efforts aimed at resuming talks on the solution of the Cyprus issue.
The UNSG also briefed President Christodoulides on the recent sounding contacts in Turkey by his personal envoy on Cyprus Maria Anhela Olgin. She held talks with Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan, following a meeting in Athens with Greek foreign minister Yiorgos Yerapetritis.
Olgin will be returning to the island on July 3rd for further contacts with Christodoulides and the Turkish-Cypriot leader, prior to the multi-party conference.
