The Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro) in Athens was filled to capacity on Friday night for a sold-out concert commemorating the victims of the Tempi rail disaster that shocked Greece last year.
Young people, many the same age as those who perished in the tragedy, alongside older attendees, arrived early for the event.
The atmosphere was one of both emotion and a demand for justice for those responsible for the collision.
Many relatives of the 57 victims were present, despite recent controversy over ticket sales.
Proceeds from the concert will go towards legal expenses for upcoming court cases related to the disaster.
The stadium gates opened at 5 p.m. local time (1400 GMT), with crowds gathering from midday. The concert began shortly after 7 p.m. and concluded just after midnight.
Prominent Greek singer-songwriters, including Foivos Delivorias, Koinoi Thnitoi, Sokratis Malamas, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, and Tania Tsanaklidou, performed at the event.
The Central Council of Modern Monuments unanimously approved a request on Thursday for live streaming of the concert. The request was submitted by the “Tempe 2023” Association to broadcast the event on the online platform estage.gr.
Outside the stadium, a group of food delivery workers gathered around 8 p.m., following an earlier protest in central Athens.
