Law Office senior attorney Alexia Kalispera is the first Cypriot to be elected to the bureau of the group of states against corruption (Greco) – the Council of Europe’s anti-corruption body.
Kalispera, who heads the Cypriot delegation at Greco, received votes from 30 of the 46 member states on Greco, during a secret ballot.
The election took place in Strasbourg last week.
A press release on Monday said this was a great success for Cyprus and that the term of the new seven-member bureau will begin of January 1, 2025.
The bureau comprises president David Meyer from the UK, vice-president members Antonio Delicado from Portugal and members Alexia Kalispera from Cyprus, Lise Chipault from France, Panayiota Vaticalou from Greece, Sorin Tănase from Romania and Olivier Gonin from Switzlerland.
Kalispera has been head of the Cypriot delegation since 2015. Over the years, she has been selected as an evaluator for Latvia, Ireland and Lichtenstein, as well as for the ad hoc report on Greece, and a rapporteur for the US, the UK, Albania, Greece and Croatia.
Russia and Latvia have withdrawn from Greco.
