Cyprus, Greece and Egypt signed cooperation agreements spanning economy, energy and education at the Presidential Palace in Cairo on Wednesday.
The agreements were signed during both a Cyprus-Egypt Intergovernmental Summit and a trilateral summit between Cyprus, Greece and Egypt.
The bilateral summit between President Christodoulides and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi resulted in six memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering information technology, aquaculture development, higher education, women’s economic empowerment in tourism, nuclear accident early warning systems, and education.
A key bilateral agreement focuses on encouraging knowledge exchange in information and communications technology, whilst another aims to enhance cooperation in aquaculture management, development and research.
The higher education MoU seeks to foster direct collaboration between universities and institutions of both countries, whilst the women’s empowerment agreement aligns with Egypt’s 2030 Strategy to increase female workforce participation, particularly in tourism.
The nuclear safety agreement establishes protocols for early warning systems and radiation protection, including information and personnel exchange between the two nations.
During the trilateral summit, five additional MoUs were signed, covering water resources, investment relations, healthcare, information technology, and port development.
The water resources agreement aims to promote sustainability measures and facilitate cooperation in training, research and water management technologies between the three countries.
The investment memorandum focuses on exchanging expertise to attract investments and strengthen economic ties, whilst the healthcare agreement establishes mutual cooperation rules in health and pharmaceutical care.
The port development agreement seeks to enhance trade and promote sustainable port development through non-confidential information exchange between the three nations.
