A Delta Air Lines plane crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, leaving eight people, including a child, with serious injuries. The aircraft flipped upside down during the crash, prompting a swift response from emergency crews.
Officials identified the flight as Delta Flight 4819, which departed from Minneapolis around 11:47 a.m. The crash occurred shortly before 3 p.m. when the plane skidded along the snow-covered runway and came to rest on its roof. Smoke rose from the damaged aircraft as stunned passengers rushed to evacuate.

Injured passengers rushed to hospitals
Paramedics reported transporting the injured individuals to separate hospitals, including a child and a man in his 60s. The condition of the third passenger remains unclear. The child’s exact age and the other adult’s identity were not immediately available.
Authorities have not confirmed any deaths. Toronto Pearson Airport posted on X, formerly Twitter, shortly after the crash, saying, “All passengers and crew members were accounted for.”
The flight operations were temporarily suspended after the incident. Arrivals and departures were halted as emergency personnel worked to secure the site and assist passengers.
Passenger captures aftermath on video
A video shared on Facebook by passenger John Nelson captured the aftermath of the crash. In the footage, firefighters and paramedics can be seen navigating the icy runway toward the overturned aircraft. Nelson, visibly shaken, described the scene.

“We’re in Toronto. We just landed. Our plane crashed, it’s upside-down. Fire department is on site. It’s upside-down. Most people appear to be OK. We’re all getting off. So [that’s what’s] going on,” he said in the video.
Police confirm most passengers are safe
Constable Sarah Patten of the Peel Regional Police in Ontario said that most passengers appeared to have escaped without major injuries. However, she said officers were still investigating the crash and ensuring everyone’s safety.

The plane involved was a small regional jet that typically carries up to 88 passengers and four crew members.
The crash followed a weekend winter storm that blanketed the Toronto area with nearly nine inches of snow. Crews worked through the night on Sunday to clear key runways, but slippery conditions persisted.
Flight attendants’ union confirms no fatalities
The Association of Flight Attendants union posted on X to confirm that no one died in the crash.
This is the most significant incident involving a passenger aircraft in Canada since the January 29, 2025 collision at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
In that crash, an Army Black Hawk helicopter collided with an American Airlines flight, killing 67 passengers and crew members.
Delta Air Lines has not yet responded to requests for comment. Investigators continue to examine the cause of the crash.
