New York-listed Greek bulker owner Diana Shipping has extended the time charter contract with Aquavita International for one of its post-panamax dry bulk vessels.
Aquavita International hired the 2013-built, 87,146 dwt bulker Phaidra. The gross charter rate is $12,000 per day, minus a 4.75% commission paid to third parties, for a period until a minimum of May 1, 2025, up to a maximum of July 15, 2025. The charter is expected to commence on October 11, 2024.
The initial deal was agreed to in 2023. At the time, the agreed charter rate was $12,500 per day and was supposed to keep the post-panamax busy from May 9 of last year through to at least September 1, 2024, and November 15, 2024, at most.
The employment of the bulker is anticipated to generate approximately $2.4m of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the time charter.
Diana Shipping’s fleet will consist of 38 dry bulk vessels – four newcastlemaxes, eight capesizes, five post-panamaxes, six kamsarmaxes, six panamaxes, and nine ultramaxes.
The company also expects to take delivery of two methanol dual fuel new-building kamsarmax dry bulk vessels by the second half of 2027 and the first half of 2028, respectively.
Currently, the combined carrying capacity of the company’s fleet, excluding the two vessels not yet delivered, is approximately 4.2m dwt with a weighted average age of 11.01 years.
