Eleni Petinos has won a third term as MP for Miranda, New South Wales with a lead of 1588 votes over fellow Labor candidate Simon Earle.
The Greek Australian MP had a lead of 525 votes when vote counting finished on Tuesday with the Liberal Party margin in Miranda previously at 14.4 per cent.
The seat has been called to the Liberal Party based on the ABC‘s data analysis.
Even though it has not been decided yet, Liberal candidate Tina Ayyad looks certain to win the seat of Holsworthy, which takes in parts of the Menai area.
In July 2022, media revealed that an anonymous complaint had been made by a staffer from then NSW Minister for Small Business and Fair Trading Ms Petinos’ office, alleging bullying.
Ms Petinos had rejected the accusations after media reports emerged that she harassed a male employee and used terms such as “retarded” and “stupid”.
In a statement to AAP at the time, the department said it had not received any complaints about Petinos’ office.
Reportedly others in the office speaking to media had stated that the male staffer was not suitable for the role. The then NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet had sacked Ms Petinos, made the seat untenable and dumped the Miranda MP from state cabinet.
