Erdogan is a better actor than Zelenskyy

Ankara has become a reception center for foreign political officials involved in ongoing conflicts. They rush to the occupying power’s capital seeking their… help; for Turkey to contribute to “peace” and “stability”.
The occupying power continually seeks to remain in the frame of developments and secure a role in geopolitical games.
Under the guise of a supposedly (conveniently) neutral party, without cost but with gain (political, diplomatic, economic), Ankara is once again acquiring an enhanced role and offering “mediator” services.
This effort is directly linked to Ankara’s expansionist plans. It connects to the “vision” of the occupying power to strengthen its influence in the wider region, with the ultimate goal of ensuring its presence in various ways in these countries.
This planning doesn’t only concern our region, as the Erdogan regime gradually implements its imperialist policy almost everywhere. It’s noted that the map of the African continent is filled with Turkish flags, evidence of Turkey’s presence there.
It should be noted that from the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict, with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Erdogan wanted to emerge as the great bridge-builder.
Without adopting and implementing sanctions against Moscow, he wanted to mediate. He did it at the beginning, and he’s doing it now.
He promoted himself as representing a state ready to participate in a system of guarantees and security, with troops present in Ukraine after an agreement. Kyiv, and especially the country’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a state of desperation, sees Erdogan as a savior and Turkey as a “lifeline”.
Last Sunday, Zelensky stated in a press conference that “he sees Turkey as an important security guarantor for Ukraine.” This isn’t the first time Zelensky has mentioned this. Kyiv had asked Turkey in March 2022 to participate in a system of guarantees, along with other permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, to ensure the security and independence of his country.
This is, of course, a serious mistake by Kyiv, which has been repeatedly stated. How can a country under occupation ask for help from an occupying power? Does it ignore history? Does it ignore what has happened in Cyprus and what Ankara’s behavior is in various regions?
Turkey, as is known, participated with Greece and Britain in the guarantor system of the Republic of Cyprus and invaded the island in 1974, and since then has occupied our country’s territory through military force.
And this, despite the fact that the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee does not provide the right to use force by the guarantor powers. Zelenskyy has requested this from a country that doesn’t respect the independence and territorial integrity of its neighbouring states.
It claims territories and challenges their sovereignty.
Erdogan, obviously a better actor than Volodymyr Zelenskyy, declares that he opposes the occupation of foreign territories by a third country, while his occupying troops are located in various regions.
Turkey sought and has a role in Syria (it has troops and satellite organizations) and so far seems to be exerting influence on Damascus’s new regime.
It’s an effort made and continued with the tolerance of various international players, who leave the occupying Turkey undisturbed to dangerously increase its role.
Those who believe that Ankara will eventually abandon these countries where it sends troops, with or without the guise of a “peacemaker,” probably don’t know what Turkey really is.
