Ex-prince of Greece, Nikolaos, is reportedly preparing to remarry in a private ceremony following his engagement to Chrysí Vardinogianni, a member of one of Greece’s wealthiest families and the daughter of shipowner Giorgos Vardinogiannis. According to Greek media, the 55-year-old former Greek royal proposed nine months after announcing his divorce from Tatiana Blatnik.
The couple reportedly plans a small wedding attended only by close friends and family, keeping the event intimate and away from public view. Footage published by Greek newspapers on January 17 showed the pair walking together on a public street.
The report noted that Chrysí Vardinogianni accompanied Nikolaos to the memorial service of his father, former king Constantine, marking two years since his death, held at Tatoi royal estate.
#GreekRoyalFamily pic.twitter.com/GrGWa9tcoI

Chrysí, who ended her five-year relationship with actor Konstantinos Markoulakis in December 2023, has longstanding ties to the former Greek royal family. She was reportedly present at the September 2024 wedding of Nikolaos’ sister, Theodora, in Athens.
The event took place at the same church where Constantine, then reigning as king of Greece, and queen Anne-Marie were married in 1964. However, Chrysí and Nikolaos were not publicly seen together during the service.
Members of former royal family granted Greek citizenship and adopt new surname, ‘De Grece’
Recently, Greece has granted citizenship to ten members of the former royal family after the entire family had been stripped of it thirty years ago. Royalty in Greece was abolished fifty one years ago in the 1974 referendum that followed the restoration of democracy in Greece after seven years of a military dictatorship.
Specifically, the five children of Constantine II and former queen Anne-Marie—Pavlos, Nikolaos, Philippos, Alexia, and Theodora—as well as five of the late king’s grandchildren acquired Greek citizenship. They adopted a new surname, De Grece, French for “of Greece.”
Divorce between Ex-Prince Nikolaos and Tatiana Blatnik
Nikolaos, the second son of Anne-Marie and the late former king Constantine, divorced Tatiana Blatnik in 2024 after 13 years of marriage. Their wedding, held in August 2010 at the Cathedral of Ayios Nikolaos on the island of Spetses, was a grand royal event.
The former couple, who did not have children, later settled in Athens and pursued independent careers. Nikolaos focused on photography, while Tatiana became involved in social impact work.
“We wish to inform you of a significant and heartfelt decision made by TRH Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana. After 14 years of marriage, they have chosen to amicably dissolve their union,” the former Greek royal family’s office said in a statement on April 19.
Speaking of Greece, sad news to report in the world of royalty. “This decision was reached with great care and mutual respect, reflecting the depth of their appreciation for one another and the moments they have shared. Their future interactions will continue to be guided by these same principles of respect and understanding, as they transition into a relationship rooted in a strong friendship. They will continue to live and build their lives in Greece, a place they both call home,” it continued. “The Family will always support them.”
The last public appearance of Nikolaos and Tatiana as a couple was at a memorial service for former king Constantine in February 2024, held at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The service was attended by members of the former Greek and British royal families, including Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, and Princess Beatrice.
As ex-prince Nikolaos prepares for his second marriage, the upcoming ceremony marks a new chapter for the former Greek royal family. Further details about the wedding have not yet been announced.
