Exclusive: Greece’s deputy minister for Diaspora pledges “slashing wait times” at consulat

Deputy minister of foreign affairs responsible for the Greek Diaspora, Giorgos Kotsiras, has pledged to improve the operation of Greek consulate offices in Australia, in an exclusive interview with Neos Kosmos.
Kotsiras said “elevating the relationship of Greece with the Greek diaspora is a key government priority” and outlined initiatives “already taken or currently underway”.
On the voting issue, he stated that “the government aims to extend postal voting in the national elections, to further strengthen the voice and presence of Greeks abroad.”
Neos Kosmos posed a series of questions to the deputy minister, including the pressing issue of the delays and backlog at consulate services that in Australia.
Kotsiras conceded there are long-standing problems:
“We are fully aware of difficulties faced by our consular authorities and striving to attend to members of the public in the best possible way, particularly for slashing wait times required for certain consular services.
“We are already examining various administrative and other measures we can take to improve the situation.”
