Experience holidays in Greece are attracting British interest

The Greek National Tourist Office UK & Ireland successfully presented the multitude of possibilities for experience holidays in nature that Greece offers and its unparalleled natural beauty at three leading tourist events in the British market.
With a focus on sightseeing tourism, marine and sustainable tourism, Greek destinations emerged as ideal holiday destinations for British people seeking authentic and sustainable experiences with an eco-friendly touch.
In detail, in the context of strengthening collaborations with the British tourism market and promoting thematic tourism experiences throughout the country, the Greek National Tourism Organisation of the United Kingdom & Ireland participated in:
- The annual conference of ATAS (Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers) and the two-day tribute to trends in the touring and outdoor activities sector held at the Wales Convention Centre, ICC Wales, (16–17 September 2025). The conference held targeted meetings showcasing thematic experiences throughout Greece, with the participation of 50+ suppliers and 350 travel agents.
The Head of the Department, Ms. Eleni Skarveli, and the Deputy Head of the Department, Ms. Angela Tzifa, highlighted authentic outdoor activities and cultural routes in a series of meetings, encouraging partnerships that support sustainable tourism development and the spread of tourism. At the same time, four tourism agents were awarded a prize for participating in a familiarization trip in the spring of 2026 in Northern Greece, in collaboration with the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
- At the international maritime exhibition, Southampton International Boat Show (19–28 September 2025). England’s leading maritime event, with a history of over 50 years, is hosted in the port of Southampton and attracts over 100,000 visitors and more than 450 exhibitors.
During the exhibition, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) held a tasting of Greek wines for visitors, while at the same time providing information on high-end marinas in the Dodecanese and the Saronic Gulf, as well as thematic experiences such as island hopping, new sea routes, sailing, diving and water sports. And the strong interest of the British market in Greece as a safe, easily accessible and exciting destination for sea experiences and tours was confirmed.
- In the proceedings of the Earth Chapter of the European Tourism Committee (ETC) Working Group on Climate Action, which took place (8-10 September 2025) in the city of Athlone, Ireland. Participants from Greece, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Iceland, Finland, Portugal and Belgium/Flanders had the opportunity to get to know Ireland’s National Climate Action Programme first-hand. The programme already supports more than 150 tourism businesses through specialist guidance and practical advice on energy efficiency, waste reduction and water management. The representative of the Greek National Tourism Organisation, Eleni Skarveli, presented the strategic pursuit of the Hellenic Tourism Organisation to integrate climate initiatives into national tourism policy and the protection of cultural heritage.

- The 10th Chapter Earth meeting, with the valuable support of Ireland’s National Tourism Organisation, Fáilte Ireland, confirmed the importance of pan-European collaboration and local innovation in shaping a climate-resilient future for tourism that empowers communities, protects natural resources and creates authentic, sustainable experiences for visitors across Europe.
