The Democritus Cultural Centre in Northcote will host an event examining the legacy of Metapolitefsi—the 1974 political transition that restored democracy to Greece—and its influence on Greek-Australian community relations, on Saturday, 23 November.
The inaugural forum, titled ‘Let’s Talk: About Metapolitefsi – 50 Years of Democracy in Greece’, will bring together prominent voices, including journalist Kostas Karamarkos, theatre director Thanasis Makrigiorgos, Cypriot affairs analyst Dr Michális S. Michael, and academic Dr George Vassilacopoulos.
The panelists will delve into the historical significance of Metapolitefsi, its impact on contemporary Greece, and how it has shaped the cultural and political identity of the Greek-Australian diaspora over the past five decades.
Organised as the first in a series of public discussions, the event aims to foster meaningful dialogue on issues of importance to Australians of Greek and migrant heritage.
When: Saturday, 23 November, 2.30pm
