Archaeologists have made a monumental discovery within Egypt’s Great Pyramid – finally verifying the true builders of the wonder of the world 4,500 years ago. The find dispels the long-held belief The Great Pyramid was erected by slaves as Ancient Greek sources once suggested.
The massive discovery, spearheaded by the renowned Egyptologist Dr Zahi Hawass and his team, suggests the ancient wonder of the world was not constructed by 100,000 slaves but by highly skilled, paid workers operating under a stringent regime.
“These findings confirm that the builders were not slaves. If they had been, they would never have been buried in the shadow of the pyramids,” Dr Hawass explained on the Matt Beall Limitless podcast.
“Slaves would not have prepared their tombs for eternity, like kings and queens did, inside these tombs,” Dr Hawass added.
“They were discovered in chambers that are challenging and perilous to access, and they use writing styles that only trained Egyptologists can accurately interpret,
“It’s nearly impossible that someone in recent times could have forged something like this. You must climb about 45 feet and crawl through tight spaces to even reach those chambers,” Dr Hawass said.
In a revolutionary discovery archaeologists uncovered tombs just south of the Great Pyramid, the site is believed to be the final resting places of the very workers who built the iconic edifice, reports the Mirror.
These ancient burial sites contained not only tools such as flint instruments and pounding stones, but also statues that vividly depict labourers shifting massive stone blocks. Interestingly some tombs carried titles like “overseer of the side of the pyramid” and “craftsman”.
However it’s not just the tombs that are creating a buzz, Dr Hawass has illuminated the actual construction methods of the pyramid. The limestone utilised was sourced merely 1,000 feet away, with evidence suggesting it was moved using a ramp system constructed from rubble and mud. The remnants of these building materials were discovered by Dr Hawass’s team to the southwest of the pyramid.
Dr Hawass elaborated: “The ramp had to come from the southwest corner of the pyramid and connect to the quarry,” detailing the excavation at a site labelled C2 where they unearthed traces of this ramp – a blend of stone rubble, sand, and mud.”
Despite the ramp being dismantled, not all evidence was obliterated – leaving behind hints for researchers. The Great Pyramid of Giza was built during Pharaoh Khufu’s rule in the Fourth Dynasty, stands as the largest pyramid on the Giza Plateau. The pyramid is a testament to human architectural brilliance.
