Finland’s Mikki Koskinen has been named as the new president of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations, effective January 1, 2026.
Koskinen has been the managing director of ESL Shipping Oy, part of Aspo Group, since 2013, and is a member of Aspo’s Executive Board.
Before that, he was the managing director of Meriaura Oy. Koskinen also served as a member of the board of the International Chamber of Shipping and was the chairman of the Finnish Shipowners’ Association.
Koskinen has been the vice-president of the ECSA for two years since 2024. He will succeed Karin Orsel, ECSA’s first female president.
“Shipping is a success story for our continent, making Europe a global leader in the international supply chains. As we look ahead, the maritime sector faces its most profound transformation yet. The energy transition of shipping, geopolitical uncertainties, and rising protectionism demand bold leadership and collective action,” Koskinen said.
The association also named Nikolas Veniamis from Greece, the CEO of Golden Union Shipping and of Starboard Shipping & Trading, as the new vice-president.
He is the secretary of the board of directors of the Union of Greek Shipowners and serves on the board of both the Hellenic War Risks and West of England P&I Clubs. He has been serving as a member of the ECSA Board since 2011.
Shipping is a global industry. It is now more important than ever to ensure European shipping remains globally competitive. To achieve this, it is essential to continue the constructive dialogue and cooperation with EU policymakers and stakeholders,” added Veniamis.
