The Greek-Australian Cultural League (GACL) has opened entries for its annual literary competition, calling on writers to showcase their talent.
The 2025 edition of the competition is now open to all writers over the age of 18 who live in Australia seeking to submit short stories or poems in either Greek or English, with the deadline for entries being Friday 18 July.
Participants can submit work in as many categories (and in one or both languages) with the one limitation being they can only put forward one piece of work per category.
The entries will be assessed after the deadline with prizes awarded to first winner in each category, with second and third also being recognised with commemorative award certificates and small gifts.
The competition specifies that all entries must only be sent electronically as a Word document to the competition email address: gaclitcomp@gmail.com
Valid entries will be all poems that fall under the maximum of 100 lines and all short stories that do not exceed 2,000 words, with any submissions that go above the permitted limit to be rejected.
The entries must be original work of the respective writer and must not have been submitted in other competitions or been published elsewhere.
Submission into the competition can be done via the League’s website, www.gacl.com.au, which contains the entry form and competition rules, or by emailing them at the aforementioned competition email.
The first winning entry for each category will be published in the 71st issue of the periodical, Antipodes.
Further details on the Award Day will be announced in the near future.
