Greece’s largest carriers Aegean and Olympic Air announced flight cancellations for February 28 as air traffic controllers join a 24-hour general strike called by the civil servants’ union ADEDY.
The strike, which will run from 00:00 to 23:59 local time, has forced both airlines to cancel or modify all scheduled domestic and international flights, Aegean said in a statement.
The disruption will affect flights on February 27 and March 1, with only select services operating on modified schedules.
For Cyprus-bound travellers, flight A3909 from Larnaca to Athens will depart on February 28 at 23:30 local time, whilst flight A3910 from Athens to Larnaca will leave at midnight on March 1.
To accommodate passengers during the strike period, both airlines have added extra flights and increased seat capacity on domestic and international routes immediately before and after February 28.
Affected passengers will receive notifications from the airlines or their travel agents regarding alternative arrangements, the company said.
The carriers are offering free ticket changes for travel through December 31 or credit vouchers for passengers scheduled to fly during the Clean Monday holiday weekend from March 1-3.
Passengers seeking additional information can visit aegeanair.com or olympicair.com, or contact the airline’s call centres.
