The Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence (MAEs) were held on Thursday, celebrating individuals and organisations whose work has strengthened multiculturalism and social cohesion across the state.
This year’s ceremony also included the Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll, which highlights local champions of diversity whose volunteer efforts and community leadership have supported safety, connection and resilience in Victoria’s multicultural communities.
Among the honourees were five Greek Australians: Suzy Bourdamis, Helen Kalimniou, Angelos Terrence Kenos, Eleftheria Lalopoulos and Eugenia Mitrakas, each acknowledged for longstanding contributions across community advocacy, cultural preservation and public service.
The evening also recognised Bill Papastergiadis, whose four-year term as a Commissioner of the Victorian Multicultural Commission was formally acknowledged by the Governor of Victoria. Papastergiadis, a prominent figure in the Greek Australian community and former long-serving president of the Greek Community of Melbourne, was thanked for his service and leadership.
The MAEs, delivered in partnership with the Victorian Multicultural Commission, remain one of the state’s key platforms for acknowledging multicultural leadership across sectors including education, media, justice, health, business and civic participation.
