The Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) has honoured the academic achievements of Greek-Australian students in the Class of 2025 at its annual High Achievers Awards.
Held at the Greek Centre, the event brought together more than 100 attendees, including students, families, educators, and community members, to celebrate excellence across VCE subjects, including Modern and Classical Greek, as well as exceptional performances in Unit 3 and 4 studies.
GCM President Bill Papastergiadis congratulated the students while highlighting the collective role of families, teachers, and the wider community in supporting their success.
“It’s a village that has raised all of us, and in particular the students we are celebrating tonight,” he said.
The evening featured the attendance of notable figures including Nina Taylor MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Education; Maria Triantafyllou, Coordinator of Educational Affairs at the Greek Consulate in Victoria; and GCM board members.
Mayors of Greek heritage, including Virginia Tachos (City of Brimbank), Jim Grivas (Manningham City Council), and Emily Dimitriadis (Darebin), were also present.
Papastergiadis presented the mayors with plaques recognising their own recent electoral successes, noting that Mayor Dimitriadis was a former High Achievement recipient herself.
GCM Secretary A/Prof. Marinis Pipiris reflected on the historical importance of education within the Greek migrant experience.

“For the first Greek migrants who came to Australia, education represented dignity, belonging and hope,” he said.
“They saw it as the opportunity for their children to have a better life.
“Today, we are here celebrating your results as you begin the next chapter of your lifelong journey. This is a beginning, not an end.”
Representing the Ben Carroll, Deputy Premier and Education Minister, Taylor congratulated the Class of 2025 and highlighted the diversity of educational pathways available in Victoria.
“Across the state, a record 65,586 students will graduate with their VCE this year, an increase of 3,500 compared to last year,” she said.
“Tonight is about saluting academic excellence, and that is a fantastic outcome.”
Awards were presented to students who achieved outstanding VCE results, with all recipients offered membership to the Greek Community of Melbourne to encourage continued engagement in community life.
Students who achieved the highest study scores received cash prizes, including Giorgios Pirpiris, dux of the 2025 cohort with an ATAR of 99.95, who received $500.
Other top-performing students were awarded $150 prizes.
