The Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) Schools warmly welcomed students, parents, and teachers from Perth’s Evangelismos Institute of Greek Language and Culture at the Greek Centre on Saturday, marking a special day of cultural and educational exchange.
The visit coincided with celebrations surrounding the visit of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to Melbourne. The students from Evangelismos traveled from Perth to take part in these historic events, which provided a unique opportunity for both schools to connect through shared activities promoting the Greek language and culture.
Maria Bakalidou, Principal of GCM Schools, guided the guests through the Greek Centre, offering insights into the school’s programs and curriculum.
Bakalidou highlighted the significance of such exchanges, stating, “We are always eager to build relationships and partnerships among Greek schools across Australia. Our shared goal is to promote and preserve the Greek language and culture. By exchanging ideas and experiences, we enhance our ability to support the needs of our schools and students.”
A vibrant exchange followed, featuring storytelling by author Syrmo Kapoutsi, interactive educational games, and musical performances, including traditional Greek dance.
Spyridoula Demetriou, a GCM board member and part of the Education Committee, accompanied the group to the Hellenic Museum for an engaging guided tour, further enriching the cultural experience.
The visit concluded with a commitment to future collaborations, reinforcing the shared dedication to Greek language education across Australia.
