A 68-year-old man among the five Greek Cypriots detained in the occupied areas, who suffers from sleep apnoea, has still not been provided with the special machine he needs to sleep at night, according to newspaper Ozgur, despite the issue being raised repeatedly in “court”, with the Turkish Cypriot media questioning whether this violates human rights.
According to the report, lawyer Ogur Ciulhaoglu stated during yesterday’s proceedings at the “military court” that the relevant request for providing the machine so the 68-year-old can sleep without his breathing stopping has been submitted to the “interior ministry”, but no response has been received.
The newspaper reports that the request for the machine was submitted from the beginning of the detention of the five to the Trikomo “police directorate”. It is also recalled that the five were “arrested” on 19 July.
