Greek Port Inundated by Stinking Dead Fish Struggles to Clean Up

The flooding caused the freshwater fish to end up in the Pagasetic Gulf, where they could not survive in salt water. The dead fish then inundated the port of Volos.
“Due to the floods caused by Daniel, the waters from lake Karla covered a huge area, about 180,000 hectares, and this resulted in the destruction of irrigation infrastructure, including the flood gate, which opens to relieve floods, allowing water to be channeled into the Pagasetic,” Kouretas said.
The Region of Thessaly closed the flood gate at lake Karla on Tuesday, after it had remained open for technical reasons.
