Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou affirmed today that Greece and Cyprus will continue to strive for the liberation and reunification of Cyprus and its people. Her remarks followed the military parade held in Nicosia to commemorate October 1st.
“October 1st is a day of honour and remembrance for the struggles and sacrifices that led to an independent Cyprus,” Sakellaropoulou stated.
She noted that sixty-four years after its establishment, and despite the illegal Turkish invasion in 1974 and the ongoing occupation, “the Republic of Cyprus stands as a modern European state, a pillar of stability in the wider region.”
“Bound by fraternal ties, Greece and Cyprus will continue to fight together for the freedom and reunification of Cyprus and its people,” the Greek President added, extending her wishes for a happy national day.
