Greek workers strike against proposed 13-hour workday
Thousands marched in Athens and Piraeus on Wednesday as unions, teachers, students and seafarers joined a one-day general strike.
The government’s draft law would allow employees to work up to 13 hours a day, with 40% overtime pay, which officials argue increases flexibility.
Unions call the measure “monstrous,” saying it will reverse hard-won labour rights and worsen safety, health and family life for workers.
Ferries, trains, taxis and metro services were halted nationwide, with protesters demanding higher wages and better conditions instead of longer hours.
