Harmony Cup footy carnival returns to Melbourne

The Australian Football International (AFI) Harmony Cup is back in Melbourne this Sunday 30 March.
The free entry event will be held at Royal Park North, near the Carlton Football Club, from 9am to 5pm.
The aim of the event is to celebrate Melbourne’s multicultural diversity and harmony, and to use the power of sport to break down cultural and ethnic barriers.
“It will be a sensational day of multicultural footy,” AFI CEO Brian Clarke previously told Neos Kosmos.
“We may come from many different backgrounds, but we are all Australians.”
It features teams drawn from Melbourne’s many communities, including Greeks.
Former AFL players such as Anthony Koutifides & Ange Christou (Greece), Tony Liberatore (Italy) and Adem Yze (Albania) have all previously competed in the Harmony Cup.
The event has been held 17 times, with Ireland and Lebanon the most successful teams with four championships each. Greece has won one time in 2005.
This year’s teams include:
Men’s Division 1 – Ireland, Israel, Nauru and South Sudan
Men’s Division 2 – Druze Victoria, Greece, Timor-Leste and United Nations
Women’s Division – Fiji and Ireland

Round 1: 10am – Greece v Druze Victoria at Ransford Oval
Round 2: 12.10pm Greece v United Nations at Western Oval
Round 3: 2.20pm Timor-Leste v Greece at Western Oval
