With notable success, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the event presenting the city of Ioannina as a “four-season destination” took place at the Multipurpose Hall of the Municipal Art Gallery of Heraklion.
The event was organized by the Municipality of Ioannina and hosted by the Municipality of Heraklion, gathering representatives of local government, tourism, culture, gastronomy, and the business community. Attendance was high, and the interest shown by participants confirmed the momentum of this initiative.
The presentation highlighted the unique features of Ioannina: its long-standing history, natural beauty, traditions, and gastronomy, which together form a unique destination of authentic experiences throughout the year. Special emphasis was placed on silversmithing and musical tradition—two elements that are hallmarks of the city’s identity and offer visitors a vivid and experiential acquaintance with the region.
Particular emphasis was also placed on the importance of sustainable tourism development. As noted, Ioannina today emerges as a city that combines cultural heritage with modern creativity, offering experiences year-round, with respect for the environment and support for the local community.
Participants had the opportunity to “travel” through images, stories, and interactive elements that showcased the richness and authenticity of Ioannina and Epirus.
Mr. Aimilios Neos, representative of the Tourism Department of the Municipality of Ioannina, presented Ioannina as a modern and attractive destination, highlighting the unique experiences it offers and enhancing the area’s recognition. The event was curated by the Head of the Tourism Department of the Municipality of Ioannina, Ms. Eleni Basogianni.
During the event, reference was also made to the long-standing proposal for a direct air connection between Ioannina and Heraklion. This request has been repeatedly expressed by local organizations and citizens, with proposals and memoranda submitted to the competent authorities. The effort, as emphasized, continues in a coordinated manner by the Municipality of Ioannina, tourism bodies, and representatives from both Epirus and Crete, as a joint strategic initiative to enhance connectivity and create new development prospects.
The evening concluded with a tasting of local products and traditional dishes inspired by Epirus cuisine. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with industry professionals and exchange ideas, laying the foundation for future collaborations that will highlight both regions as high-quality and authentic destinations.
The event confirmed the high strategic importance of cooperation between Ioannina and Crete, paving new paths for culture, tourism, and development.
