Israeli assistance request to Cyprus stirs concern in Larnaca

Concern arose in Larnaca following statements made by Israel’s Transportation Minister, who mentioned yesterday that if her country were to come under attack, they might request ships from the port of Larnaca and Athens.
The Cypriot government subsequently clarified that any such request would pertain to vessels for the transportation of Israeli citizens, which helped to alleviate concerns.
Nonetheless, as a precautionary measure, security has been significantly heightened at both the port and the airport of Larnaca, with protocols being reviewed daily.
Stringent security measures are also in place at the Jewish synagogue in the heart of Larnaca and other locations frequented by Israelis.
