A new podcast series has brought new life to Kytherian stories, combining new audio techniques with narrations to provide an immersive experience about the island’s legends.
The podcast, titled “Don’t let the darkness catch you in Paleochora: A Kytherian experience”, commenced this past February to officially give the stories a digital home.
The legends are narrated by elderly Kytherians, the living memory bearers of the island’s traditions, beliefs and superstitions, with their words enriched with 3D soundscapes to elevate the experience on the part of listeners.
The episodes feature audio simulations of the scenery in which they take place, adding an extra dimension to its storytelling.
The project endeavours to preserve the heritage of Kythera, serving as a digitised library that can be accessed by a wide audience (especially the younger generations).
The podcast is commissioned and runs under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture -Directorate of Modern Cultural and Intangible Cultural Heritage in collaboration with the Kytherian Foundation for Culture and Development (KIPA), and with the support of the Kytherian Association of Athens.
It has a strong team of both creatives and researchers that have combined to deliver the podcast.
The series is available on Spotify and represents just the first part of the project.
