Those attending the Antipodes Festival this weekend will have a chance to learn more about the Metro Tunnel and West Gate Tunnel at the More Ways to Move Roadshow.
Victoria’s Big Build workers will be available to talk to festival goers about how these two major transport projects will benefit drivers and public transport users when they open later this year.
The Metro Tunnel will offer more services and connect the Sunbury Line with the Cranbourne/Pakenham lines, traveling through five new underground stations – Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac.
It will become an easier commute for hospital staff, patients and visitors as well as university students, while improving access to popular destinations like the Queen Victoria Market, Arts Centre Melbourne and the historic Greek Quarter.
Suburbs with some of Melbourne’s largest Greek communities including Oakleigh and Clayton will have direct train access to the Metro Tunnel’s new stations on the Cranbourne/Pakenham Line.
“Throughout the decades our local Greek community has helped build and shape our wonderful city, we’re looking forward to talking to people about how the Metro Tunnel and West Gate Tunnel will make Melbourne an even better place to live,” said Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA) Director-General Kevin Devlin
“Whether it’s the removal of a level crossing or the Metro Tunnel being the biggest upgrade of our rail network since the City Loop opened in 1981, we’re making travel easier for Victorians.”
To connect to these new stations, commuters on other lines will only need to make one change.
The West Gate Tunnel Project is now entering its final stages of works before opening by the end this year.
When the tunnel opens, drivers will be able to travel to and from Melbourne’s west to the city via two new tunnels under Yarraville, with new city connections to Footscray Road in Docklands, Dynon Road in West Melbourne or CityLink.
The community can learn more and ask questions at the More Ways to Move Roadshow at the Antipodes Festival, near Constance Stone Lane, from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February.
