A number of main streets and avenues in the capital will remain closed or with no parking allowed from midnight tomorrow through to Monday early afternoon due to festivities on the occasion of the October 28th OXI day, marking 84 years since the Greek government refused free passage to the Italian axis fascists.
According to a police statement, no parking is allowed from midnight tomorrow at the Archbishopric square, Korais, Isokratous and Zinonos Kitieos streets and the Constantinos Palaiologos, Michalakis Karaolis, Evagorou and Vyronos avenue. The main bulk of the students parade will pass through Vyronos, where the Greek Embassy is situated.
Traffic will be blocked from 9am Monday onwards at Omirou Avenue, starting from the Egypt street junction through to Eleftheria square and on Vyronos Avenue from the Museum traffic lights through to the junction with Grivas Dhigenis Avenue.
Vyronos, Omirou, Karaolis and Severis Avenues will be closed from 0930 onwards.
The public can park at the D’Avila moat, the Municipal Palace area, near the Fire Service and the Kolokasi parking area.
Buses from the Strovolos-Lakatamia-Anthoupoli-Parissinos-Engomi-Ayios Dhometios and Ayios Pavlos areas will take/leave passengers at the Rigainis parking place, near Solomou square.
Buses from Pallouriotissa-Kaimakli-Aglantzia-Dasoupoli and Latsia will stop at Kaningos bridge near the OXI kiosk.
The public is advised to follow directions from patrolling officers and if they’re watching the parade, they should stay on the pavements for safety purposes and not blocking pupils and students on parade.
Drone use is prohibited.
