The Merri-bek City Libraries (formerly Moreland) boast an extensive collection of over 6,500 Greek-language items, available for more than 40 years.
These collections can be found at our Brunswick, Glenroy, and Coburg libraries.
They include novels, informational books—many of which are history books, biographies, craft and cooking books, paperback romances—as well as newspapers and magazines.
We also have a large selection of children’s books. The children’s collections feature many bilingual books and materials suitable for children learning Greek.
We also offer excellent digital collections for adults and children, including e-books and e-audio books, which can be downloaded to your smartphones and tablets.
There are numerous Greek-language stories for children available online through our non-English collections.
We can assist you in learning Greek or improving your English through our Mango online language-learning platform.
Additionally, we provide one-hour individual digital learning sessions, which you can attend by signing up and using your phone, computer, or the internet. These sessions complement our weekly Tech Help sessions offered at all Merri-bek libraries without an appointment. Pronia also offers digital learning classes in Greek at the Brunswick Library.
Merri-bek Libraries run an event program that includes cooking demonstrations, author talks, workshops, and performances.
At our larger libraries, we offer the Chatty Café, a free program where you can practice your English in a social setting. Other social programs include chess clubs, craft groups, and book clubs.
Our libraries have makerspaces, which are free to use. In these spaces, we have sewing machines, overlock sewing machines, Cricut machines, and 3D printers.
After a long pause due to COVID, we have resumed a weekly Greek Storytime program at the Glenroy Library, thanks to a grant application made by Pronia in collaboration with Merri-bek Libraries. These sessions attract about 15 families each time. We also offer storytime sessions in other languages, including Italian, French, Spanish, Turkish, and Hindi.
The Coburg and Brunswick Libraries are open every day from 9:00 AM, starting with a quiet hour.
We close at 8pm and are also open on weekends. The Glenroy Library, located in the new Glenroy Community Hub, stays open until 10pm on Thursdays.
Please remember that everything we offer at the library is free.
We invite you to come and explore our Greek-language collections, which have recently been updated with new stock.
