Mickoski: Messages from Brussels not Very Clear

The first EU-Western Balkans Summit since the start of the term of Antonio Costa as European Council President will be held on 18 December in Brussels. At the end of the meeting, EU Heads of State and Government will adopt a declaration, while alignment will be expected from Western Balkan leaders.
The text will ascertain, among other things, that enlargement is a geostrategic investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity. PM Hristijan Mickoski, who will attend the event, nonetheless said on Saturday that the messages concerning his country were not very clear.
“However, our message is clear. We’ve done enough, we’ve done what no other EU country did,” he stressed.
Regarding the previous and current vetoing by Greece and Bulgaria, respectively, he said the question was whether if there was one precedent, that precedent then became practice.
“We’re seeing that it becomes practice there,” the PM stressed.
Also, Foreign Minister Timco Mucunski said the EU had to take into consideration the geopolitical movements in the region. In his view, a clear path must be outlined for North Macedonia’s negotiations in terms of what’s expected and what the country is required to do in order for its EU path to be predictable and certain.
“This will be easy for neither us nor the EU, but it must be the best for both us and the EU’s credibility, taking into consideration the geopolitical movements in the region,” the Minister underlined.
On Sunday, Arben Taravari said VLEN was not giving up on the EU path and would do everything for the negotiations process to proceed.
