The adoption of a proposal on constructing a monument at the European Parliament honouring Greek-Cypriot missing persons has met with a strong reaction from new Turkish-Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman.
In a written statement, Erhürman referred to the decision was ‘unacceptable’, arguing that this demonstrated “the continued erroneous practice of Greek Cypriots filling up the two EP seats that should belong and go to Turkish Cypriots.”
He further put forward the claim that in this manner, the European Parliament is really being prevented from getting the accurate information concerning the truth in Cyprus.
Erhürman, who was set to meet Tayip Erdogan in Ankara, stated that he will not be limiting himself to mere condemnation of the decision, but all necessary representations will be made to EP competent authorities.
