The Limassol CID has launched a premeditated murder investigation following the death of 45 year old Greek-Cypriot Yiannis Argyrou who was found dead by his mother this morning on the ground floor closed parking area of the apartment building he was residing, in the Neapolis area of the city.
According to Philenews sources, authorities interrogated an individual who had personal disputes with the victim.
Argyrou, who was found face down, sustained multiple stab wounds from a sharp instrument, state pathologists Papetta and Orthodoxou said. His mum was looking for him last night, but there was no response to her calls. She called on his mobile again this morning and then went to the parking area where she found her son.
The closed parking area where Argyrou was killed was only used by himself and members of his family also living in the apartment building. There is currently no testimony indicating any other incident prior to the crime.
According to the same sources, the 45-year-old was well known to authorities for drug related cases over the past five years, having being picked up by the Drug Law Enforcement Unit.
Members of the Limassol CID swiftly arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area for on-site examinations and investigation. Forensic Science service personnel from Police Headquarters also conducted inquiries.
Authorities are currently evaluating and investigating all evidence and information received over the victim’s recent moves, looking for the motive behind the killing.
